Good morning. Today, we pay homage to the late Fred Eversley, a Light and Space sculptor who made a remarkable impact on fellow artists in Los Angeles. The sprawling city is also at the center of a book about the small but mighty museums and cultural institutions that keep the art ecosystem alive, from the mobile African American Miniature Museum to the Museum of Jurassic Technology. Read on for an update on disgraced art advisor Lisa Schiff and a win for artistic freedom in Miami Beach, whose mayor finally dropped a motion to defund an independent cinema for screening the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land. Plus, Aida Amoako on a Noah Davis retrospective, revelations about the women who crafted illuminated manuscripts in Medieval Europe, and more. And if you’re in New York next week, Editor-in-Chief Hrag Vartanian will be on a panel to discuss Eunsong Kim’s book The Politics of Collecting, also the subject of a Hyperallergic Podcast episode last fall, at the CUNY Graduate Center at 5pm on Monday.
