| | First images of the Air India Crash. Credit: AP | A London-bound plane has crashed shortly after take-off in Ahmedabad, western India. The plane, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, appears to have crashed in a residential area. Passengers included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian national. Tracking website Flightradar24 says it received the last signal from the aircraft at 625 feet (190m) "just seconds after take off". Air India's chairman, Natarajan Chandrasekaran has confirmed that Air India Flight 171 "was involved in a tragic accident today". The state minister of Gujarat says officials have been instructed to carry out "immediate rescue and relief operations". |
