Remember parties? Over at Grand Park, Tanya Aguiñiga and Mark “Frosty” McNeill have a buoyant installation of music, balloons, and party materials. It’s part of Art Rise, an exhibition spread all over the city this month. See it through photojournalist Samanta Helou Hernandez’s eyes. In news, cherished LA art spaces — like the Underground Museum and the Museum of Neon Art — are getting the money they need after a rough year. Also, Chon Noriega is stepping down as the director of UCLA’s Chicano Studies Research Center after 19 years. Read our interview with him from last year. And Caroline Liou highly recommends catching the last week of Nonaka-Hill’s Busy Work at Home: “If there’s any show that can coax you back into seeing art in-person, let it be this one.” Here is a beautiful video by Nathan Gulick that travels through the exhibition. — Elisa Wouk Almino, Senior Editor | |
