After I-12 barriers worsened 2016 floods for some, Louisiana settles for $21 million

Eight years after the floods: Five companies that helped design and install a median on Interstate 12 that worsened catastrophic flooding in 2016 will pay more than $21 million to fix the barriers and fund flood-fighting efforts in the affected parts of East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parishes, thanks to a settlement approved this month.

The agreement could end a nearly eight-year legal battle that sprang from the floods, which damaged tens of thousands of homes, displaced residents and paralyzed swaths of the region. Read the full story from courts reporter Matt Bruce. 


So, what happened to Boil & Roux?  After 10 years on Coursey Boulevard, the popular but controversial seafood restaurant Boil & Roux is closing.

The restaurant drew big crowds and was featured last year on chef Robert Irvine's show "Restaurant Impossible." But it also was controversial, with neighbors claiming patrons caused loud noises late into the night, and it ran into legal trouble with its landlord and alcohol board officials. Here's a timeline of the local business' troubles over the past decade. 


Winter chill: Colder weather is coming to Baton Rouge this weekend, with temperatures expected to drop into the mid-30s on Friday and Saturday nights, the National Weather Service said.

Dozens of vehicles ping-ponged across the fog-shrouded Lake Pontchartrain Causeway early Tuesday, combining for at least six separate multi-vehicle crashes that sent at least 11 people to the hospital and left a trail of wreckage that forced officials to close the bridge for more than eight hours as they slogged through a massive cleanup.
