Merry Christmas Eve, everyone. As coach Brian Kelly promised on Wednesday, the start of the early signing period, the LSU Tigers were far from finished bringing in players for the 2022-23 recruiting cycle. That pledge was upheld Friday, as LSU announced the signing of seven players out of the transfer portal, led by former Texas A&M cornerback and former five-star prospect Denver Harris, and former five-star wide receiver Aaron Anderson from Alabama. To get the full rundown of LSU's seven signees, click on Leah Vann's story right here. Kelly said Wednesday that LSU would sign eight to 10 transfer players, so it's quite likely the Tigers aren't done. Kelly mentioned something about another big recruiting weekend in January, and of course there is the second, traditional signing period in February. A total of 31 signees — remember, schools are allowed to sign over the 25-scholarship limit this cycle as long as they don't exceed 85 scholarships total — keeps LSU at No. 6 in the 247Sports.com rankings that combine high school and transfer signees. There was more good news for LSU as well Friday as starting defensive back Greg Brooks, himself a former transfer from Arkansas, announced he is returning to play for the Tigers in 2023. Brooks' decision gives the Tigers some much-needed stability in the secondary room, according to our Wilson Alexander. Finally, even though he's now a New Orleans Saint, the Honey Badger is still a Tiger for life. And as Jeff Duncan writes in this column, he's eager to give back to his hometown of New Orleans. Well, that's all for this Christmas Eve edition of our LSU newsletter. Thank you very much for subscribing. You are the egg to our nog, the tinsel to our trappings, the faithful dog Max to our Grinch. Um, maybe that's going a bit far, but suffice to say we're grateful. Joyeux Noel, Scott Rabalais |
