With the announcement Sunday that the LSU football team will be headed to the Texas Bowl in January, coupled with the fact that student-athletes are in the midst of final exams, it was a quiet Monday for sports on the campus. But even though they didn't play a game, there was some good news for the LSU men's and women's basketball teams. First, Will Wade's unbeaten Tigers were sitting second in the first NET rankings released by the NCAA on Monday. The organization uses the rankings, which is formally known as the NCAA Evaluation Tool, to help identify and seed teams through the final three months of the season for the NCAA tournament. Then, came the release of the AP rankings and coaches' poll around midday. That also brought good news as LSU was 25th in the AP's poll of writers and broadcasters and 24th in the coaches' poll. It's the first time LSU has been ranked since the 2019-20 season when the Tigers were No. 25 in late February. Not to be outdone, Kim Mulkey and her women's team cracked the AP poll for the first time together at No. 24. It's the first time the Tigers have been ranked in three seasons. Columnist Scott Rabalais takes a look at the last week since news broke of Brian Kelly's departure from Notre Dame to be LSU's new football coach. Rabalais takes a look at the arrows being aimed at Kelly from all angles for his abrupt departure from South Bend, his first big staff decision at LSU and the viral video of him addressing the crowd at the LSU-Ohio basketball game.
