LSU can, because Jayden Daniels can

Good morning, and a good All Saints’ Day to you all.

Today is the New Orleans Saints’ 56th birthday, but the subject of this newsletter isn’t the Saints, it’s the LSU Tigers. More specifically, the Tigers’ starting quarterback, Jayden Daniels.

Daniels isn’t the same quarterback he was when he started the season.

The LSU Tigers aren’t the same team they were back then, either.

There’s definitely a connection here.

For LSU to beat Alabama on Saturday in Tiger Stadium (6 p.m., ESPN), the Tigers are going to need a dynamic performance from their rising star of a dual threat quarterback. Fortunately for LSU, Daniels has raised the level of his game as the season has gone on. Just as fortunately for the Tigers, they’re playing the Crimson Tide in early November instead of early September when they were still searching to find themselves.

The Tigers are rounding into form going into the Alabama game, getting healthier. Coach Brian Kelly gave an update on four players at his Monday news conference.

Monday means TV time for the next week’s game. We’ve got TV info on LSU’s game next weekend at Arkansas, but with a twist.

Kelly started his remarks Monday by wishing Alabama coach Nick Saban a happy birthday. Saban turned 71 on Halloween day (Kelly turned 61 last week). It showed a remarkable amount of cheekiness given that the Tigers are about to play a season-defining game.

Men’s basketball is just days away from its season opener on Nov. 9 against something called Missouri-Kansas City. Coach Matt McMahon stopped by to talk about his Tigers heading into their final week of practice and the green light given to a transfer player from his former team at Murray State.

Finally, a pair of videos for you. The first is that now viral fight between LSU and Ole Miss in the SEC soccer tournament. The second is Kelly’s entire presser from Monday (spoiler alert: no fighting).

Thanks for reading and subscribing. This is a big week for LSU sports, so you need a big LSU sports newsletter to follow.

That would be, in a word, us.

See you tomorrow.
