The first two days of the major league baseball draft have looked like a rundown of the LSU baseball roster. Day two of the three-day draft Monday saw Tiger stalwarts Tre Morgan and Gavin Dugas among those LSU players drafted. They followed Sunday's opening day which saw four Tigers selected, starting with Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews in the first two slots. It marked the first time ever that two players from the same college went 1-2 in the MLB draft. Even players with some injury issues, like Tigers pitcher Grant Taylor, also heard their names called on day two of the draft. Meanwhile, LSU coach Jay Johnson continued the busy work of restocking his coaching staff in the wake of pitching coach Wes Johnson leaving to become head coach at Georgia. Monday came news that Jay Johnson was bringing back a former Paul Mainieri assistant, Terry Rooney, to be his recruiting coordinator and director of player development. Rooney, who was pitching coach at Purdue, replaces former LSU director of operations Josh Simpson, who left to be an assistant on Wes Johnson's new staff at Georgia. Very soon the attention will turn away from LSU's newly minted College World Series champions and back to football. Monday we learned which three Tigers will accompany coach Brian Kelly to SEC Media Days next Monday in Nashville. Of course we're going to make you click here to see which LSU players are going as well as the complete list of attendees from each school. Finally, LSU women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey is recovering from a procedure to have two stents deal with a blocked artery, a heart issue that had virtually no symptoms for the four-time NCAA championship coach. She's sharing her experience in hopes that it will inspire others to get their health checked out. Well, that's all for a surprisingly busy Monday, folks. Thanks for reading and subscribing to our LSU newsletter. If there were a draft of loyal readers we'd take you in the first round. Or at least with a compensatory pick. Scott Rabalais |
