Two days out from LSU's 45-24 loss to Florida State in Orlando, the result didn't look any better for the Tigers. The only thin silver lining is the old adage that misery loves company. Clemson, ranked four spots behind LSU in the preseason AP top 10 at No. 9, got bounced 28-7 Monday night at Duke, looking about as anemic on offense as LSU looked vulnerable on defense against the Seminoles. The season isn't over for either team, though Clemson's loss is compounded by the fact that Duke is an ACC opponent. LSU still has its conference schedule to begin in two weeks with what looms as a must win at Mississippi State. This Saturday, of course, LSU hosts Grambling at 6:30 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. That game will be shown on a streaming basis only on SECNetwork+ (basically it's a fancy name because all the games are on the watch portion of the ESPN app and ESPN.com/watch). There is plenty for LSU to work on going into the Grambling game. Much too much, really. But in his follow-up story on the LSU loss, our Wilson Alexander drills down on the Tigers' lack of a running game other than what quarterback Jayden Daniels could do plus one big run by Josh Williams. We'll also revisit a couple of our stories from Sunday night, including my column and the ever-popular Three and Out. That's all for now on LSU football. Coach Brian Kelly will have his weekly news conference Tuesday because of Labor Day, so again, short week. But there's lot to address and we'll bring it all to you in the coming days. Thanks for reading and subscribing and remember that it's just one game. Just ask Clemson. Then again, that's probably not a good idea. Scott Rabalais |
