Happy Independence Day, everyone. While it's a day for barbecues, swimming pools and fireworks, it isn't a day for much fresh LSU sports news. All of the LSU teams are on hiatus, and we're counting the days (13 of them, actually) until the start of SEC Football Media Days in Nashville on July 17. That's when the college football season really begins for people like your friendly neighborhood sportswriter. Until then, we do have a few LSU-related stories to look back on for you. Something to click through as you're lazing by the pool or waiting for the burgers to be done on the grill. Our Rod Walker wrote a column about what a great year it was for not just LSU baseball and its national championship, but all of college baseball in Louisiana. Speaking of LSU baseball, the Tigers have a new pitching coach, a familiar old hand as far as LSU coach Jay Johnson is concerned. And the fact that Johnson pulled him from a nearby SEC rival is certain to make LSU fans extra happy. Looking ahead to 2024, LSU's non-conference baseball schedule is beginning to take shape. The Tigers are heading back to Houston's Minute Maid Park next season, and we've got the rundown on the teams they will face. Gradually, the volume will be turned down on LSU's baseball celebration and turned up on the approaching football season. The recruiting news never seems to stop, of course, and the Tigers recently added a four-star offensive line commitment from North Carolina. That's all for today, good people. Enjoy a safe and happy Fourth of July, and we'll see you again soon. Scott Rabalais |
