Tech investing, drag racer goes to prison and a French Quarter anomaly

By Drew Broach | Deputy metro editor

SEED MONEY: Patrick Comer, who sold his market research company, Lucid, for more than $1 billion last year, says it was an early love of Dungeons & Dragons that led him to his latest investment in a New Orleans startup. He's participating in a $2.5 million investment round for Gripnr, which creates online strategy games like Dungeons & Dragons using one of Comer's and the tech sector's latest obsession: blockchain technology.

SPEED SENTENCE: A New Orleans driver accused of killing a 70-year-old grandfather and critically injuring the man's son, when he lost control of his car during a drag race that hit 121 mph on Airline Drive in Metairie, has been sentenced to 12 years behind bars for the fatal crash.

OUT OF PLACE:  There are a few kinds of architecture you’d expect to find in the French Quarter: Creole cottages, colonial-era French structures, maybe a bit of Greek Revival. But Victorian? Sure enough, there's an out-of-place semi-Victorian in the rear of the Vieux Carre, and we have the history on it.
