She currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is a predominately self-taught, abstract mixed-media artist and has taken numerous abstract painting classes with Michael Ottersen, as well as various art classes at Harwood Art Center in Albuquerque. Her painting, Hues of Gravity, was jury selected for the Women's Work 2024 show at Ghostwolf Gallery. Recently, she was selected to participate in the OffCenter New Works Program in Albuquerque. Her painting, Heights, was selected as part of the FAV15% (jury's favorite 15% of the entries) in the July 2023 BoldBrush Painting online competition. She has exhibited her work at the Collect 10: Lucky 13, The Center for Contemporary Arts, in Santa Fe, NM and also had a solo show at the Santa Fe Baking Company. She received her M.A. in Counseling Psychology with an Emphasis in Depth Psychology in 2004, from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, CA, which informs her process as the program delved into the collective unconscious, the psyche, archetypes, and mythology with Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell. Due to a hereditary condition at the age of 40, she experienced hearing loss which created a great appreciation for expressing herself in a visual medium. Working with acrylics and various materials, she chooses unconventional tools and techniques. Her work has been described as poetic, profound, prolific, gutsy, and symbolic. It is atmospheric with a hint of landscape and space. She is a builder of ephemeral worlds with visionary and fantastical elements on one hand and an architect of fragments that look like they have always existed. Her work reflects an open-endedness that invites the viewer to project. Statement: I've been an abstract artist for 25 years. When I paint, I feel fluid, joyful, and bold. My uninhibited approach to painting was nurtured by my mother early on through encouragement, free play with art supplies, and room to explore. Getting messy was a good thing. I was diagnosed with hearing loss at the age of 40. The straining to hear disappears when I paint. My art is a visual conversation and a way to connect with others. Nature, the cosmos, and the unseen inspire me. The journey of discovery, and perhaps the collective unconscious, is what drives me. I am looking for something new in each painting that resonates spiritually. It's almost like prayer or birthing a poem. I often start with nothing in mind. My unconscious propels a first choice of color, which I then apply directly to the canvas. From there, additional colors, a water spray bottle for surprise effects, gestures, marks, and even the removal of paint, are chosen based on my intuition and quest for balance. Unconventional tools are also part of the experiment. I primarily use acrylics but also incorporate inks, watercolor, collage, gouache, and various mediums. Movement (sometimes very physical) and other choices come from an interior space expressed through color, line, and texture. Some pieces are quick, and others have 10 or more layers of construction and deconstruction, with under layers peeking through like ruins.
