The pain from LSU's 24-23 season-opening loss Sunday night to Florida State is still lingering. Literally. LSU learned Monday what was feared after the game: that sophomore defensive tackle Maason Smith will miss the season with an ACL injury. Smith hurt himself jumping to celebrate a play on the Seminoles' first possession of the game. Our Wilson Alexander provides details and tells you who the Tigers will count on to fill Smith's considerable shoes for the rest of the season. Wilson is back as well with a weekly feature through the season exclusive to TheAdvocate.com and Nola.com: a film review breakdown of the Tigers' previous game. In this season's first installment, we ask whether the up-tempo attack that got LSU back in the game against FSU is the way for the Tigers to go moving forward. Despite the bitter disappointment LSU fans are feeling after Sunday's game, the season does indeed roll on. The Tigers host Southern in a historic matchup Saturday in Tiger Stadium, and our James Wilkins tells us about some of the events being planned by both schools leading up to the game. Finally, if you haven't had enough of the Florida State game, we've got a photo gallery for you from Sunday night in the Caesars Superdome. To quote Steve Martin in "The Jerk," "Roll the ugliness." Thanks for reading, and subscribing. We'll be with you every day through the season with the latest coverage on the Tigers. So chin up, keep calm and carry on. Scott Rabalais |
