THE BIG STORY
Money is tight right now. Here's how nine people are getting by.
The economic devastation wrought by the pandemic continues, even amid recent signs of a modest economic uptick. As our former colleague (and friend of the newsletter) Tom Gara notes, since April the United States has actually seen a large increase in household income and savings as an unprecedented number of people are receiving stimulus and unemployment benefits from the government. Unfortunately, “the massive interventions that made all this possible will soon come to an end — but the unemployment won’t.”

India has banned TikTok
Following rising domestic pressure to boycott Chinese-made goods, the Indian government on Monday ordered 59 Chinese apps to be blocked, including TikTok, WeChat, Shareit, and Clash of Kings. It framed the move as protecting its citizens' personal information.
But tensions have been rising between the two nuclear powers for weeks, following a border clash in the Himalayas in which Chinese forces killed at least 20 Indian soldiers and an unknown number of Chinese soldiers died. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has faced domestic criticism, which undercuts his strongman image and conciliatory posture toward China, against which India has fought sporadically since a war in 1962.

The Golden State Killer has pleaded guilty to 13 murders and admitted to at least 50 rapes. A prosecutor described Joseph James DeAngelo, 74, as "the real-life version of Hannibal Lecter," a "sociopath," and "master manipulator."
The Supreme Court upheld the constitutional right to abortion in Louisiana on Monday, rejecting a state’s attempt to limit access to the procedure for the second time in four years.
BAN HAMMER
Reddit banned a ton of subreddits including r/The_Donald and r/ChapoTrapHouse
In a Reddit post, CEO Steve Huffman said the decision comes after discussions about how the platform can "[close] the gap between our values and our policies to explicitly address hate."
The pro-Trump and leftist podcast pages were the largest of about 2,000 subreddits banned on Monday, a move the platform said was intended to crack down on online communities that "promote hate."
The wave of bans comes weeks after Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian resigned from the board of directors, urging the company to fill his seat at the table with a Black candidate. "WHAT A COVID-19 HORROR STORY"
A teen had her mask accidentally pierced into her ear by an Icing by Claire's employee
Sissy Sheridan, a 16-year-old actor and host of a Nickelodeon web series called DIY With Me, recently shared a video to her popular TikTok channel in which she's crying and distressed. She said that on Sunday, an employee at Icing by Claire's pierced a mask she was wearing to her ear.
Sissy and her mother, Leisa, provided several videos and photos showing the strap of her mask still lodged in the back of her ear — even after they tried to cut around it.
They said they provided the same images to the district manager and asked for a full refund but were told they would have to remove the earring and return it to the store in order to receive a refund. Courtesy of Sissy Sheridan A PHOTO OF MY LARGE DOG IN A TINY COWBOY HAT
That’s all. I just thought you might enjoy it as much as I do. Be the tiny cowboy hat on top of the large dog that is life,
