Baton Rouge man, girlfriend arrested in attempted murder of a police officer

BY VICKI FERSTEL | Staff writer

Authorities on Monday arrested a man accused of intentionally ramming a Baton Rouge police motorcycle, badly injuring the officer.

Sgt. Caleb Eisworth remained in critical condition Monday after undergoing surgery, authorities said.

Gad Black, 41, of Baton Rouge, was booked on attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. Arrested later Monday was his girlfriend, Asia Raby, 40, on counts of obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact.

Staff writer Aidan McCahill has the story.

Monday's LSU-UCLA game was suspended because of a thunderstorm in Omaha. The score was 5-3 in favor of the Tigers at the start of the fourth inning before the call for the rain delay at 7:20 p.m.

The game resumes today at 10:03 a.m.

Meanwhile, Paul Skenes, the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher and former LSU standout, and his girlfriend, former LSU gymnastics star Olivia Dunne, had made quite the splash at Monday's College World Series game. They sat alongside Raising Cane's founder Todd Graves.

Staff writer Rashad Milligan has the story.

The Rev. Jimmy Swaggart remained in critical condition Monday after having been rushed to a hospital Sunday from his Baton Rouge-area home.

Swaggart, 90, went into cardiac arrest shortly after 8 a.m. on Father's Day.
