Calculating ROI is an imperfect science, and as organizations diversify with their cloud strategies, recent data unanimously shows the benefits of securing such services through multiple providers once factors of scale make it feasible. But more channel partners means greater complexity, requiring greater vigilance of multicloud spend.
Today’s lead story by Josh Fruhlinger distills some key tips to calculate multicloud ROI. But one thing to keep front of mind, according to Forrester analyst Tracy Woo, is don’t just ask whether multicloud saves money but if it’s worth the cost. “Almost everyone understands that you’re not going to migrate workloads to the cloud just to save money,” she says, adding that figuring out worth, in the aggregate, gets mixed into discussions beyond cost management.
Getting growth and cloud strategy in lockstep isn’t easy, but when your company reaches a certain level of demand and performance, the pressure to go multicloud increases. So be careful what you ask for, but once you get it, rest assured there are solutions at hand.
