Manufacturing jobs, tariffs and what it means for Acadiana

There's plenty of talk about bringing overseas jobs back to the U.S. — onshoring is how it's described — but in Acadiana that effort has been in motion for a few years. 

The SafeSource Direct project got it started. Since then there's been growth in the manufacturing sector, enough that the region has gained back the jobs lost from the pandemic. Lafayette Parish has nearly gained back the jobs lost from the oil slump of 2015 and 2016. 

How the tariffs will play out in Acadiana is undetermined at this point. But officials are hopping on the bandwagon of trying to increase manufacturing jobs in the area.
