May 25, 2022 Today marks two years since a Minneapolis police officer murdered George Floyd, sparking protests internationally and putting a spotlight on racism in policing in Minneapolis. At the spot where Floyd was killed, organizers started and have kept a memorial going in honor of Floyd. It's an effort to both to pay respect and remind people of what happened there. Marcia Howard lives just a few houses away from George Floyd Square. Howard, a school teacher, has been out at the square consistently since Floyd's murder. "It's imperative that we don't miss this moment. We need to meet this moment — not just as a neighborhood, not just as a movement, but as a city, and a state, and a nation. We will not let this slip by." Find photos of George Floyd Square from this morning on our Instagram. And stay tuned for more anniversary event coverage throughout the evening. |
