Editor's Notes We're soon wrapping up the all-virtual NET/WORK hiring fair and phew, I forgot how exciting (and a little exhausting, for this introvert!) it is to talk to strangers for hours on end. Over in the newsroom lounge, Technical.ly reporters have been chatting with tech job seekers from, truly, around the country. It's been fun. We've missed you. Accordingly, I've been asking people: Does place matter to you now? When we're all virtual for at least the next few months, and as companies debate whether to keep their offices post-pandemic, and — as we saw en masse at NET/WORK — as it's easier than ever to hire the best talent from wherever, does it matter where a potential employer is based, at all? Is there even a "local tech community" to join? Some said no, emphatically, while others can't wait to get back to offices. Most said there are pros and cons to both. (For me, at least, it's a complicated philosophical question.) What do you think? Respond to this email to share your thoughts, even if it's just a few words, and I may include them in a story. — Technical.ly Managing Editor Julie Zeglen (julie@technical.ly) |
