Note from the editor

Utility Dive will take a break from publishing its daily newsletter on Monday for Memorial Day. We will be back in your inbox Tuesday with the latest electric power news.

If you're behind on this week's energy news, here are some highlights for the long weekend:

On the federal stage, two new storage bills were introduced in Congress Wednesday, one in the House and one in the Senate, adding to a growing pile of bipartisan storage bills waiting for action on Capitol Hill.

And on the utility front, Xcel Energy is planning to speed up the closures of its last remaining Minnesota coal plants, as well as add 3 GW of solar, after reaching a deal with clean energy advocates that will allow it to complete the purchase of a 720 MW natural gas plant.

Finally, if you're looking for a longer read, we published a Deep Dive this week digging into the hurdles ahead for California as it accelerates toward a carbon-free future.

Thank you, as always, for reading.
