Incumbent Democrat Sharon Weston Broome and Republican Sid Edwards are in a runoff, and the winner will be decided after today's balloting. Voters in St. George have another important item on the ballot: a tax transfer measure that holds significant consequences for the future of the newly incorporated city. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill says drivers who were ticketed in a Brusly school zone and received the citations in the mail should not pay them. “They’re doing something they’re not legally authorized to do,” Murrill said about the local officials in an interview Friday. “And even if it was within their duties to do this, they didn’t follow the statutory requirements to do it legally.” Read more about what Murrill said. As the East Baton Rouge school district continues to struggle with having enough bus drivers to get kids to and from school each day, it may hire an outside company to take over 10 daily routes. A final vote on a proposed contract is set for the school board’s Dec. 19 meeting. If approved, Cincinnati-based First Student Inc. would deploy 10 of its drivers and buses starting Jan. 6 and continuing through the end of May at an estimated cost of $470,000.
