Mayor's race begins, a new Freret restaurant and charter schools closing

Moreno makes it official: New Orleans City Council member Helena Moreno formally launched her mayoral bid on Wednesday, kicking off the race to replace Mayor LaToya Cantrell, James Finn reports.

Charters closed: The Orleans Parish School Board voted to shut down two charter schools at the end of this month, forcing about 100 students to change schools mid-year.
