Note From the Director

Hello to all our Manchester neighbors! This fall we’ve had the good fortune to have an intern from Endicott College working with us at the Library. Those of you who have already met Emma know how friendly she is, but I wanted to give a shoutout to the great work she has done for and with our staff as she learns all about librarianship. Emma will be pursuing a Master’s in Library and Information Science next year, and we know she will be a wonderful librarian! One of the projects she has taken on is the reorganization and promotion of our ever-growing library of things collection. The next time you are in the library, take a look at the vast array of items you can borrow from the library just as you borrow books! We have everything from a power washer to a pop-up tent to board games to a metal detector. And for the coming winter months, why not try our snowshoes?... Read more

Winter Hibernation with Hands on Nature

Saturday | Nov 23| 11:00AM—12:00PM

How do your favorite animals spend the winter? Join us as we learn how animals survive the coldest months of New England. We will learn about hibernation, migration, and the amazing adaptations animals have for surviving our harshest temperatures. Bring a stuffed animal and create a cozy little hibernation den to take home! Saturday, November 23rd at 11 am. Please register for this event.

Manga Group and Rubik's Club

The library's Teen Loft is gearing up to launch two new monthly programs — a book group focusing specifically on manga and a Rubik's Cube for budding speedcubers and cube noobs alike! Look for scheduling announcements about both offerings very soon.

Perfume Making and Mocktails Party

Saturday | Nov 16 | 2:00—4:00PM

Discover the art of perfumery while creating your own unique perfume that is perfectly blended to reflect your individual personality, style, and preferences. Mocktails will be served to cleanse the palate and add to the ambiance.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the MBTS Library. Registration required as space is limited.

Writing Intensive

Tuesday | Nov 19 | 5:00-7:00PM

As the weather cools many return their attention to finishing or starting their novel, screenplay or chapbook of poems. Come to the library and enjoy a dedicated writing zone, with a jar of prompts to keep you inspired and snacks to fuel your word count goals. Check out the library’s virtual writing group, Shut Up and Write every Thursday from 10AM – 12:15PM. Attend a writing intensive on Tuesday 11/19 from 5:00-7:00PM with librarian, Maddy Willwerth.

Community Game Night

Come on by with your game face on. Drop In. All ages welcome! Snacks provided. Play one of our games on loan through the library of things or bring your own game to share.

Pajama Storytime

Thursday | Dec 5 | 6:00-7:00PM

Join Miss Audrey for a cozy pajama storytime and craft the first Thursday of every month from 6-7. This program is for kids ages 4 and up and their families.

Crowell Chapel Concert Series Featuring: Hungrytown

Tuesday | Dec 3 | 6:00-7:00PM

The Library and Manchester Parks and Recreation are excited to kick off a free, monthly concert series at the Crowell Chapel. On the 1st Tuesday of every month, join us in the Crowell Chapel at 6:00PM for music by the sea.

Recently returned from a UK tour, Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson, through their years of worldwide touring and tireless devotion to many classic genres of music, have crafted Hungrytown into a true artistic hybrid, able to hold Celtic and Americana, ballads and psychedelia, sunshine and darkness, joy and despair--not only within the same album, but within the same song. Hungrytown's music has received extensive radio airplay worldwide and has appeared on several television shows, including The Daily Show and Portlandia.

This program is made possible through a partnership with Manchester Parks and Recreation and funding from the Friends of the Manchester-by-the-Sea Library. Registrations are encouraged.
