How this Alabama teacher inspires the world |
An Alabama teacher has garnered the nickname “Carey Poppins” among her students after creating a “care closet” to make sure they’re feeling their best throughout the day – and now, through TikTok, she’s helping other educators around the country do the same. Carey Arensberg, a social emotional behavior specialist at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Mobile, said she was inspired to create the “care closet” in 2021 after witnessing the impact having easy access to basic hygiene items and other products made on the children at her school – starting with a male student who was so embarrassed by the state of his hair that he repeatedly refused to remove his hood in class.
