Today marks the start of Wimbledon - and it also marks the start of an exclusive new series from The Scotsman.

 

Entitled Clans and ancestry: Tracing Scottish roots, The Scotsman over coming days will be exploring those searching for answers to their past and their families, and the people and resources helping them to complete those journeys. Penned by our Heritage Correspondent Alison Campsie, in part one we speak to genealogist Lorna Kinnaird, who works out of General Register House, where documents date back to the 12th century.

In other news, a £4.4 million support fund for businesses affected by ongoing disruption to ferry services has been launched by the Scottish Government. But the fund has its critics, with the decision to make firms on only eight islands eligible described as "baffling".
