Hello again, New Orleans food lovers! This week, Ian McNulty brings us the story behind MeMe's, the finest dining establishment in Chalmette. One of New Orleans' Italian landmarks will open soon in Biloxi. Canal Place gets its sizzle back with Brasa steakhouse in the former Morton's. Ten local pop-ups and restaurants will set up shop at Moonlight Madness Thursday. Finally, Judy Walker has tips, and a tasty rémoulade, for grilled vegetables and fruit. 1. Fine dining in the parish? For many regulars, MeMe’s Bar & Grille in Chalmette is valued as the nicer restaurant down the street for business outings or celebrations that don’t entail a trip into New Orleans. Now, the former chef de cuisine and manager of Emeril's have teamed up at MeMe's to "keep it what it is, and elevate it." 2. Biloxi beckons. Brothers Jack and Phil Rizzutto, who own Rizzuto’s Ristorante & Chop House in Lakeview, are getting permits and ordering equipment for their new restaurant in Biloxi. The transformation of the Redding House mansion in downtown Biloxi into a fine dining Italian restaurant is about to begin. 3. Wait! There's more. The former Morton's steakhouse in Canal Place will become Brasa, the second location of the restaurant serving South American-style steak and seafood. And this Thursday, Moonlight Madness supports the Crescent City Farmers Markets with 10 local food vendors. 4. Dressed to grill! The trick to grilling delicious vegetables and fruit? Choose produce that's just shy of ripeness, Judy Walker says. A quick rémoulade finishes the meal. That's it for the food newsletter, but in New Orleans, the food news never stops.
