The Debate Around “Cursed” Ordinal Inscriptions
By Craig Deutsch

The ongoing debate surrounding "cursed" ordinal inscriptions revolves around whether these unrecognized inscriptions should be included or excluded from the ord protocol.

Cursed inscriptions, which do not receive an inscription number, are created using invalid opcodes or intentional opcode misuse. Proposed solutions suggest retroactively assigning negative inscription numbers to these inscriptions, but disagreements arise regarding their numbering and inclusion when updating the code.

One specific concern involves inscriptions utilizing the unrecognized OP_66 opcode, and the debate centers around whether they should be classified as cursed and included or rejected altogether. Currently, the developers maintain an unbound status for cursed inscriptions, disallowing their transfer or sale, raising concerns for users who incurred significant transaction fees.

While some users support recognition of cursed inscriptions with OP_66, the code's maintainers oppose it, leaving the path forward uncertain. Users have the option to fork the code and create a version that recognizes these inscriptions, but the resolution of this debate will determine the future of ordinal inscriptions on Bitcoin.

🧠 Wallet Thoughts

Should A Bitcoin Wallet Have Rights?
By Artem Afian

In this article by Artem Afian, a lawyer and "legal futurist," the author explores the concept of whether Bitcoin wallets should have legal rights.

The author emphasizes that Bitcoin transactions occur between wallets and not necessarily directly between individuals, thanks to the pseudonymity of Bitcoin.

The article draws parallels with the recognition of animal rights and the ongoing discussions about the legal rights of robots. It argues that if legal entities such as corporations can have rights, then Bitcoin wallets, which are more tangible and perform transactions like legal entities, should also be considered for legal protections.

Afian concludes by stating that the idea of Bitcoin wallets having legal rights may seem unconventional now, but the evolving nature of the Bitcoin space may reveal more possibilities in the future.
