| Aug. 24, 2020 Another wave of severe storms tonight? Our atmosphere over Minnesota is primed for another round of potentially severe storms through Monday night. Many Minnesota districts are having to re-craft, walk back or change their reopening plans based on rising COVID-19 case rates, budget constraints and pushback from both teachers and parents. Also, the University of Minnesota Board of Regents voted to delay returning to in-person undergraduate classes by two weeks. State health officials said parents and students should be prepared for changes, there is no guarantee that back to school plans will work out. Here's a closer look at the COVID-19 numbers: Minnesota confirmed 717 new cases from among about 12,000 tests. About 10 percent of the people tested are coming back with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Cases have also been growing in east central Minnesota, where 14 counties between the Twin Cities and Duluth have reported 500 additional cases in the last week — a rise of 14 percent, and the fastest relative increase of any region in the state. Wisconsin has called out the National Guard to respond to unrest in the wake of the shooting of a Black man by police. It happened Sunday night in Kenosha. Jacob Blake survived several shots at close range to the back. Officials said he was in serious condition. Crowds responded with protests. According to The Journal Times of Racine, rocks, bricks and at least one Molotov cocktail were thrown.
