🗳️ 14-vote lead for DFL state House candidate up for review in Scott County recount. County officials will hand count ballots in the contest that could determine control of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
🐏 ‘Brad the Sheep’ back home after three weeks on the lam. The sheep, dubbed “Brad the Sheep” during the volunteer rescue mission, was raised on Ryan Osvold’s small farm in Carlton, where he keeps 15 Icelandic sheep for their wool, which he uses to knit socks and mittens.
🏛️ Survivor tells story of fatal night in human smuggling trial. The jury heard dramatic testimony from a man who crossed the U.S.-Canadian border in a snowstorm. He was in a group which included the Patel family of four who froze to death that night.
🐟 Study: Walleye in lakes with zebra mussels have higher mercury levels. Smaller and average-sized walleye and perch from lakes with zebra mussels were much more likely to exceed 0.22 parts per million of mercury, a threshold that triggers more restrictive advisories on how much fish humans can safely eat.
🏳️⚧️ 'We are tenacious:' Transgender Day of Remembrance marks communities‘ losses, strength. Members of the transgender community, allies and state leaders gathered to commemorate Transgender Day of Remembrance at the state Capitol rotunda Wednesday.
🏛️ Minneapolis mayor wants teachers group to cancel event over anti-Zionist speaker. A subgroup of the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers called “Educators for Palestine” is set to host a 3-hour event on Friday with Taher Herzallah, titled “Being an Educator in a Time of War and Genocide."
🧑⚖️ Hennepin County commissioners delay vote on proposal to reduce jail population. The DOC ordered the sheriff to reduce the county jail population to 600 due to violations of staffing levels, among other things. The deadline originally was Nov. 14; the state later granted an extension until Dec. 5.
🎨 Art Hounds: The M gets bigger, student-curated Black joy and fancy chairs you can’t sit on. Art Hounds discuss the expanded Minnesota Museum of Art’s new wing, a show curated by students at the University of Minnesota about Black joy and a new exhibit with 20 chairs and five mini golf holes.
🏫 Two former St. Paul school employees file lawsuit, alleging they were fired for raising financial concerns. Two former St. Paul Public Schools employees are filing a lawsuit against the district, claiming they were fired after raising concerns about how district leaders were handling finances.
💧 Suspects arrested after reported break-in at West St. Paul city water reservoir. According to a Wednesday update from the West St. Paul Police Department, officers were called to the reservoir on Imperial Drive at about 10 p.m., and saw several people fleeing the area. |

🎧 Friendly snowy owl joins Great Lakes ship crew. A snowy owl landed on the Great Lakes freighter James R. Barker on Monday, much to the crew’s delight. Photographer, author and birder Sharon Stiteler, also known as the Birdchick, joined MPR News Host Cathy Wurzer to talk about the species’ migration to Minnesota.
🎧 Listen: New York Times reporter Reid Epstein on Ken Martin’s bid for DNC chair. The current chair decided not to run for reelection after the party saw major losses earlier this month, including the defeat Kamala Harris for president. Democrats also lost control of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate.
