With about 200 lots, the Half-Year-Season at Quittenbaum Art Auctions comes to a close with 'Modern Art' and 'Art after 1945'. Subsequently, selected African exhibits will be on offer as well as a private collection of books on this subject.

At the heart of the auction is a wide range of 'Pop Art', an art genre that is being particularly cultivated at Quittenbaum Art Auctions. Nearly 40 lots are by Andy Warhol, including two ink drawings from the artist's estate entitled 'Roses', probably made in the 1950s, and 'Butterflies' from the same period (estimates at 6,000-7,000 and 5,000-6,000 euros). The Warhol offer is completed by hand-signed editions, proofs and Polaroids. Seven lots in the Pop Art section are by Alex Katz (estimates from 1,800-2,000 euros to 20,000-25,000 euros). They include iconic silkscreens such as 'Grey Dress' and 'Grey Umbrella', as well as the fine pencil drawing 'Vincent' from 1984 with the provenance Pace Wildenstein New York. 

Keith Haring’s art is present with remarkable positions from the Pop Art era of the 1980s. In 1985, he sent a drawing in acrylic on the lid of a puzzle box to the American artist, actress and former Andy Warhol superstar Brigid Berlin alias Brigid Polk. The original envelope from Keith Haring to the Warhol Muse, the second part of the puzzle box and two small stickers with motifs from his art are also included in the set (12,000-15,000 euros). The second lot from Keith Haring is a signed 'Hooded Sweatshirt' (5.000-6.000 Euro), the third was created in collaboration with Angel Ortiz (LA II) in the 1980s. It is titled 'Dogs and Ufo' and measures 97.0 x 126.7 cm (10,000 - 12,000 euros). Chinese Pop Art positions are featured with lithographs by Yue Minjun and Zhang Xiaogang. Paintings, sculptures and editions by Roy Lichtenstein, Allen Jones, Jeff Koons, Mel Ramos, KAWS and Fritz Köthe complete the Pop Art offer.

In the 'Classic Modernism' section, a colourful flower still life by Erich Heckel titled 'Parrot Tulips' is of particular interest. The work, created in a mixed technique of watercolour, gouache and crayon on paper in 1922, has been confirmed by the Heckel estate in Hemmenhofen as an authentic work of the artist (15.000-20.000 Euro).

Mit rund 200 Losen endet am 25. Juni 2020 die Half-Year-Season bei Quittenbaum Kunstauktionen mit  ‚Moderner Kunst‘ und ‚Kunst nach 1945‘. Im Anschluss daran werden ausgesuchte Afrika-Exponate versteigert und eine Privat-Bibliothek zum gleichen Thema. 

Im Zentrum der Auktion steht ein breit gefächertes Angebot an ‚Pop Art‘, eine Kunstgattung, die bei Quittenbaum Kunstauktionen besonders gepflegt wird. Fast 40 Positionen davon stammen von Andy Warhol, darunter zwei Tuschzeichnungen aus dem Nachlass des Künstlers mit dem Titel ‚Roses‘, wohl in den 1950er Jahren entstanden, und ‚Butterflies‘ aus der gleichen Periode (Taxe 6.000-7.000 und 5.000-6.000 Euro). Die Warhol-Offerte runden handsignierte Editionen, Probedrucke und Polaroids ab. Sieben Lose der Pop Art-Sektion stammen von Alex Katz (Taxen ab 1.800-2.000 Euro bis zu 20.000-25.000 Euro). Dazu zählen ikonische Siebdrucke wie ‚Grey Dress‘ und ‚Grey Umbrella’ , ferner die feine Bleistiftzeichnung ‚Vincent‘ von 1984 mit der Provenienz Pace Wildenstein New York. 

Aus der Pop-Art-Epoche der 1980er Jahre stellt Keith Haring bemerkenswerte Positionen. Eine Zeichnung in Acryl auf dem Deckel einer Puzzle-Box sendete er im Jahr 1985 an die US-amerikanische Künstlerin, Schauspielerin und ehemaligen Andy-Warhol-Superstar Brigid Berlin alias Brigid Polk. Zu dieser Zeichnung gehören noch der originale Briefumschlag von Keith Haring an die Warhol-Muse, der zweite Teil der Puzzle-Box und zwei kleine Sticker mit Motiven seiner Kunst (12.000-15.000 Euro). Das zweite Los von Keith Haring ist ein signiertes ‚Hooded Sweatshirt‘ (5.000-6.000 Euro), das dritte entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit Angel Ortiz (LA II) in den 1980er Jahren. Es trägt den Titel ‚Dogs and Ufo‘ und misst 97,0 x 126,7 cm (10.000 -12.000 Euro). Chinesische Positionen der Pop Art sind mit Lithographien von Yue Minjun und Zhang Xiaogang im Programm. In der Sparte ‚Klassische Moderne‘ ist ein farbenfrohes Blumenstillleben von Erich Heckel mit dem Titel ‚Papageientulpen‘ von besonderem Interesse. Die Arbeit, gefertigt in einer Mischtechnik aus Aquarell, Gouache und Kreide auf Papier entstand im Jahr 1922 ist vom Heckel-Nachlass in Hemmenhofen als authentisches Werk des Künstlers bestätigt (15.000-20.000 Euro).
