After seeing trouble in other communities, city directors say they want more oversight of places that at times are associated with sex work and human trafficking. City officials say they don't know of specific complaints about local business, but have more general concerns. East Baton Rouge is entering another major phase in its MovEBR program. The Metro Council tonight is expected to set up public hearings on land acquisitions necessary to widen and extend a number of roads. A new thoroughfare will link Jefferson Highway with Jones Creek Road. Roads in Central, Southdowns and the medical district will see increased capacity. Louisiana could soon have a new stop for riverboats on the Mississippi River. If things go as expected, cruise ships could stop at Vacherie, between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Tourism officials have been trying to build a new dock at an old ferry landing. |
