How images tell stories
Friend — The old saying about a picture being worth 1,000 words isn’t quite accurate. I think they’re probably worth more. Over the past 122 years, The Forward has published tens of thousands of photos alongside our news coverage. They’ve depicted everything from pivotal moments in history and breaking news of the moment, to stories of everyday life across the country and around the world. Photos connect us to the people in a story, adding emotional depth in ways words cannot. That's why we're thrilled The Museum at Eldridge Street is hosting a workshop for kids on how images tell stories as part of Pressed, the exhibition of our images currently on view at the museum. This workshop will be a great way to show the kids in your life how photos can tell stories of both the past and the present. And that’s important in more ways than one. The passing of history from our archives to your children is at the heart of Generation Forward, our campaign to make sure The Forward’s coverage is here for the next generation of readers. If you want to make sure the young people in your life always have access to Jewish perspectives on the news, donate to The Forward today. Photographs bring humanity and depth to what’s happening in the news, and that’s exactly what The Forward aims to do with all our work as the most significant Jewish voice in American journalism. Donate today to make that work possible. Thank you — and see you at Eldridge Street next week! Chana Pollack Archivist, The Forward |
