Birds in trouble Brown pelicans seem to be struggling to find food, venturing into more risky areas to forage, and now they are showing up in flocks injured or sick at the Los Angeles Wildlife Center. “We’re seeing a mix of fledglings, second-year birds and mature adults,” said Dr. Rebecca Duerr, director of research and veterinary science for the Bird Rescue’s center in San Pedro, “which makes me think it could be a food supply issue rather than a simple influx of starving fledglings.” This isn’t the first time the rescue center has seen this.
