Early voting, no-reason absentee is illegal, 11 Michigan Republicans contend

When voters decided to expand voting rights in 2018 and again in 2022 through citizen-led petition initiatives, they did so unconstitutionally 11 Republican state lawmakers argued as part of a lawsuit filed Thursday.

 

Transparency: According to a press association attorney, it’s possible the private meetings Republican commissioners in Ottawa County are holding with each other about county business could be violating Michigan’s Open Meetings Act.

 

Also in politics: A bill to allow military spouses to vote electronically concerns experts who have previously applauded Michigan’s election integrity.

Michigan’s weekend weather starts a feel of Summer 2.0

Summer rolls on: A stretch of warm weather will take hold Friday afternoon and build with hotter temperatures as we go through the weekend into at least Wednesday of next week.

 

El Niño: NOAA says there is a 71% chance of a strong El Niño this winter. This is important because the stronger the El Niño the more likely the resulting typical weather conditions are to occur.

 

Up North forecast: Potentially record-setting warmth is expected in the Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Michigan as we head into the weekend, as well as some showers and thunderstorms.

Instant observations: Lions take over control of NFC North with rout of Packers

Big win: Thursday night's game between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers wasn’t much of a showdown. The Lions scored 27 unanswered first-half points en route to a decisive 34-20 victory in Wisconsin.
