Michigan zoo introduces world to its adorable baby chimpanzee

The Detroit Zoo is ending May with a celebration as they welcome their newest youngster to the Great Apes of Harambee.

This baby chimpanzee is the first infant born to 31-year old Tanya at The Detroit Zoo. Tanya, herself, was born at the Zoo in Royal Oak and now she gave birth to her first baby on Friday, May 26th.

Speaking of wildlife, officers with Michigan Department of Natural Resources have confirmed a cougar sighting in Luce County earlier this month, marking the third such sighting in the Upper Peninsula this year.

43 Michigan counties agree to pay millions to former owners of foreclosed properties

More than bargained for: Forty-three Michigan counties have agreed to return what will likely be tens of millions of dollars from the sale of foreclosed properties to those properties’ former owners, settling a class-action lawsuit filed in 2014.

Meeting their needs: Michigan businesses are in search of employees, but a lack of affordable homes for workers means some companies are getting into the housing game.

Summer gas rules: The summertime gasoline program goes into effect Thursday, June 1, until September 15. During that time, gas stations in eight Southeast Michigan counties may only sell/dispense a summer-formula of gas, which cannot exceed seven pounds per square inch vapor pressure.

Puberty blockers, surgery for trans minors could be a felony for Michigan doctors

Michigan doctors could be charged with up to four years in prison if they prescribe puberty blockers or bottom surgery to transgender minors, under a two-bill, Republican-backed bill package introduced in the House this month.

Air quality advisory over large areas of Michigan. How long will it continue?

Elevated ozone levels: After the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality declared an air quality advisory for some counties yesterday, the forecast of higher ozone levels shows Thursday will also have an area of higher ozone over southeast and east-central Lower Michigan.

Still a little snowy: Parts of Michigan have been feeling quite summery this month, but the Upper Peninsula still had a few snowy days. Snowfall in the U.P. ended on May 2 with a historic late-season storm that pushed one community’s total over 300 inches, the National Weather Service said.

Revisiting history: It was 25 years ago on Sunday, May 31 that a historic derecho raced across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, leaving a path of destruction and killing four people.

Setting expectations for the Detroit Lions’ draft class

Checking in with the Lions: Here’s a look at how the Detroit Lions draft class is working into the early depth chart during practice, and the expectations that loom for this class in the fall.

On the basketball court: Just two years ago, Monty Williams led the Phoenix Suns to the NBA Finals and won NBA Coach of the Year honors. Now, he’ll be leading the Detroit Pistons. Williams has agreed to a six-year, $72 million contract to be the Pistons’ next head coach, according to a Wednesday night report from The Athletic.

Taking a dip: It's heating up in Michigan, with some area temperatures reaching 90 degrees. Here several to way to stay cool, whether that be splash parks, beaches or pools, throughout Bay County and the surrounding area.

A sweet treat: Visitors to Mackinac Island know all about the deliciousness of fudge. A group of up to four people can put on aprons, pick up a fudge paddle and learn how to make their own sweet treat with this fudge-making experience package at Ryba's.
