'The money is not justice:' Flint mothers react to $600 million water crisis settlement After news broke that a $600 million settlement was set to come from the state for victims of the Flint water crisis, the mothers of the children who will be the largest beneficiaries of the funds processed their thoughts. Ariana Hawk, a mother of five, said she was relieved, excited and surprised to find out the state had decided to settle. “We’ve got hope now that things might finally be getting better," Hawk said. But some believe the money won't be enough to make up for the damage that was caused. "I don’t think any amount of money is enough to compensate for the effects it has had on my children," said LaQueela Hudson, a mother of four. Some are moving forward with in-person classes, some have decided to keep learning entirely remote as the fall semester starts and some are offering options for parents. But the reopening of schools is complicated by the fact that the school year is set to begin without a state budget in place. Administrators and educators are wondering whether they’ll have to tackle an unprecedented school year with less state funding than usual. MORE ►Gov. The organization has spent the last few years rebuilding, though plans had to change once the coronavirus pandemic arrived in March. Even with in-person campaigning off the table for the Biden campaign, the party says they feel voters are energized in Michigan amid virtual efforts to connect with state residents. Fall sports that are not football can proceed in parts of the northern Lower Peninsula and the entire Upper Peninsula while the rest of the state is in a holding pattern. Additionally, football teams waiting for a spring season got some extra guidance -- they can continue workouts, but there are lots of rules regarding how they can work out.
