This week we'll have what will probably feel like a lot of ups and downs in temperatures. While it may be a lot colder compared to yesterday, it will still be much warmer than normal. Our long-term average high temperature this week is between 37 degrees and 40 degrees for the southern half of Michigan and 32 degrees to 35 degrees for northern Michigan. As far as precipitation goes, we have rain showers today and then another period of precipitation Friday night or Saturday. |

Great Lakes cruising expected to bring $200M, 20,000 passengers to region in 2024 |
The upcoming Great Lakes cruising season is expected to bring 20,000 visitors and $200 million in economic impact to the region, officials said. Additional details: Cruise the Great Lakes, the region’s cruise marketing program, announced its forecast today for the 2024 cruising season, which follows a record-breaking season in 2023. In the sky: March ushers in the season of spring, and with it, a new season of stargazing. This month’s night sky has several fascinating highlights, including a low-key lunar eclipse, the full “Worm Moon,” and the chance to see an icy chunk of space dust nicknamed the “Devil Comet.” |

Supreme Court restores Trump to ballot, rejecting state attempts to ban him over Capitol attack |
On Monday: The Supreme Court restored Donald Trump to 2024 presidential primary ballots, rejecting state attempts to hold the Republican former president accountable for the Capitol riot. The justices ruled a day before the Super Tuesday primaries that states cannot invoke a post-Civil War constitutional provision to keep presidential candidates from appearing on ballots. That power resides with Congress, the court wrote in an unsigned opinion. In East Lansing: Rema Vassar resigned her position as chair of the Michigan State University Board of Trustees just days after a law firm hired by the university recommended that the governor consider removing her from office over violations of the Board’s ethics policy and bylaws. |

US warns of possible dangers for travelers headed to popular Spring Break locations |
Travelers headed to popular spring break destinations in Mexico are being warned to exercise extra caution when visiting, even in the areas which are known to be tourist friendly. Last week, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Mexico issued a warning to those headed to Mexico and in particular spring breakers visiting Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum. Seann Patrick Pietila, a man who threatened a mass shooting at an East Lansing synagogue, was sentenced on March 4 to one year and one day in federal prison on a charge of transmitting a threatening communication. An update: The state Court of Appeals did not make a mistake in deciding that a former Grand Rapids police officer should stand trial in the death of motorist Patrick Lyoya, Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker said. |

Retiring Jason Kelce says ‘most fun’ game of his career was vs. Lions |
Jason Kelce played in more than 200 games during his 13-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles. But, according to the man himself, he never had more fun than he did playing against the Detroit Lions in the fall of 2013, a game which has since been dubbed “The Blizzard Bowl.” “Probably the most fun game of football I’ve ever been in,” Kelce said. “We were all kids again that day. Just playing in the backyard.” A hero: Former Michigan star receiver Braylon Edwards is being praised for saving an 80-year-old man from an attack in the Farmington Hills YMCA locker room last week. Winner: The top ranked art museum in the entire country is in Michigan. That’s according to the 2024 USA Today 10Best top ranked art museums in the U.S. list, which ranks the Detroit Institute of Arts number one. Nestled along Lake Michigan: Ludington celebrated its sesquicentennial in 2023 and is now being honored as an early leader in USA Today’s 10Best reader’s choice award for “Best Historic Small Town.” One of the best: 9-year-old Lilo Tsai of Ann Arbor is one of the 12 junior chefs showing off their culinary skills and competing in challenges on the ninth season of “MasterChef Junior." |
