Many Michiganders are lining up at polling locations across the state today to cast their ballots in the 2024 presidential primary election. This race determines Michigan's choice for the two presidential candidates for the November general election. Keep up with live results from the race with the 2024 Michigan Election Results guide as polls close. Forerunners for this election include President Joe Biden for the Democratic ballot or former President Donald Trump on the Republican side. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time. You have the right to vote if you are in line by 8 p.m. You can also register to vote in-person with your clerk on election day. |

Nikki Haley says Michigan was ‘a bright light’ for Republicans before Trump’s rise |
Speaking out: Facing almost certain defeat in Tuesday’s Republican presidential primary, Nikki Haley said at a Grand Rapids event on Monday that Trump’s ascendance has come at the expense of Republicans in Michigan. RealClearPolitics has Haley more than 50 percentage points behind Trump among Republican primary voters in Michigan. New locations: City and Genesee County officials are reminding Flint voters to be aware that they may have been assigned to a new polling place. The city sent notices to registered voters about changes in precincts and polling places. Mayor Sheldon Neeley said residents can also call the city at 810-766-7414 or use other resources to locate their voting location. At the polls: Nearly 600 people in Muskegon County took advantage of early voting in Tuesday’s presidential primary. Muskegon County Clerk Karen Buie said the early voting option was used by 573 voters and “was extremely effective.” |

Seatbelt use has declined; see where rates are highest, lowest in Michigan |
On the road: Michigan’s seat belt use has had a marginal decline in recent years. A study conducted in May and June 2023 found 92.4% of drivers were wearing their seat belt. It was the lowest usage rate since 2004. Unanimous decision: The Ypsilanti Police Advisory Commission passed a resolution that limits traffic stops for minor infractions like cracked or chipped windshields, loud exhausts and misplaced registration stickers. Consequences: A Northern Michigan business has been fined $750,000 for deleting emissions controls on semi-truck engines, authorities announced. Diesel Freak, LLC, of Gaylord, violated the Clean Air Act by engaging in a aftermarket scheme, which was 70% of its business for nearly three years. |

Severe storms possible Tuesday could pack hail, 60 mph wind gusts |
Stay safe: The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has updated the risk factors possible with Tuesday’s incoming system, showing that it’s going to be split between two rounds of possibly severe weather. Damaging wind gusts and one-inch hail are expected to impact the southern third of the Lower Peninsula. Be aware: Tomorrow evening has NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center forecasts indicating isolated tornadoes are possible. The tornado forecast for late Tuesday shows the highest chance of an isolated tornado along the southern Michigan border counties. Warmer days: Get ready for record warmth, Michigan. Tomorrow could bring 10 or more record high temperatures by the afternoon. A few spots will come very close to 70 degrees. |

NFL combine: Michigan’s 18 head to Indy looking for draft record |
Eighteen Michigan players are in Indianapolis for the annual NFL Scouting Combine, a record for the week-long event. Each player can meet with NFL teams, show off their skills and participate in football drills in front of scouts and front-office personnel, all in hopes of being drafted in April. Check out the full list of Michigan’s invitees. Pay day: Detroit Lions linebacker and special teams star Jalen Reeves-Maybin has reportedly agreed to a two year extension worth up to $8 million that makes him the "highest-paid core special-teamer ever," per NFL Network. First ever: The inaugural Detroit Sports Spectacular will take place this June in Novi, and promises more than three dozen guests. One of those guests at the comic con-type event for sports lovers will be Detroit Lions Hall of Fame running back, Barry Sanders. |
