MSP trooper struck, killed by motorist was 39-year-old father of one |
The Michigan State Police trooper who died Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop was a 39-year-old father of one. Two days before he would have marked his fourth anniversary with the Michigan State Police, Trooper Joel E. Popp was killed in the line of duty. As his colleagues investigate the collision that claimed Popp’s life, they are also grappling with how unnecessary the loss is. A grim reminder: Popp’s death has local police and fire departments once again reminding drivers to use caution while on the road and to slow down and get over if they see the flashing lights indicative of emergency personnel working along the roadway. |
