Michigan’s weekend weather: Fog still to contend with, but storm misses us

Know what to expect: This weekend Michigan won’t have a storm system crossing our state. The weather will be very quiet on precipitation, but still we will contend with a period of fog. It’s going to be a pretty uneventful weekend of weather. We will take that at this time of year, won’t we?

Looking ahead: The next several weeks look warmer than normal across Michigan. The extended precipitation forecast is fairly quiet, and the snow forecast is quite remarkable.

MSP trooper struck, killed by motorist was 39-year-old father of one

The Michigan State Police trooper who died Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop was a 39-year-old father of one.

Two days before he would have marked his fourth anniversary with the Michigan State Police, Trooper Joel E. Popp was killed in the line of duty. As his colleagues investigate the collision that claimed Popp’s life, they are also grappling with how unnecessary the loss is.

Dan Campbell named finalist for coach of the year; 2 Lions up for rookie of year

Getting recognized: The Detroit Lions continue to draw respect from around the league. They sent five players to the Pro Bowl, landed three players on the All-Pro teams, then landed three more players on the all-rookie team. On Thursday, four more coaches and players were named finalists for some of the biggest awards of them all.

Speaking of coaches: Offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore is the frontrunner to become the Wolverines’ next head coach, sources inside Michigan say, and school officials can speed up the hiring process by going directly to the human resources department.

Questions answered: It's time for a midseason mailbag, touching on anything and everything Michigan State basketball.
