Surprised? Michigan ahead of Florida, Arizona for best states to retire in 2023 |
Better than Arizona and even Florida? Yep. A new study ranks Michigan ahead of those states and nearly every other state in the country for retirees in 2023. In fact, Michigan ranks second overall, just behind Texas. How did we get here: To come up with its list, banking and credit site, Bank Locations, says it looked at all 50 states through 18 metrics distributed in three relevant categories: Cost of Retirement Living, Quality of Life and Access to Healthcare. Something not as surprising: Michigan had more miles of federal-aid roads graded as “poor” condition than “good” condition for the 16th consecutive year in 2022. |

Grass Lake woman accused pediatrician father of sexual abuse before she died of fatal overdose |
Gone too soon: Records show that 23-year-old Sophia Dinverno died of a drug overdose, but the manner of death – accident or suicide – still has not been determined. Police are continuing to investigate. Looking at family: Part of the investigation involves her own father, a well-known local pediatrician. Police and court documents obtained by MLive/Jackson Citizen Patriot also reveal Sophia Dinverno accused her father of sexually abusing her at a young age. The allegations prompted a 2021 criminal investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and caused Joel Dinverno to temporarily lose custody of his children, according to the records. And days after Sophia Dinverno died, the state’s licensing agency opened a complaint against Joel Dinverno’s license. |

Cardinals’ barrage of homers, miserable inning sink Tigers’ 5-game win streak |
A tough loss: Jake Rogers hit a go-ahead grand slam but the St. Louis Cardinals answered immediately with a seven-run sixth inning and went on to beat the Detroit Tigers 12-6 on Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium. An exciting win: The Michigan men’s lacrosse team pulled off a big upset for its first Big Ten championship. With the victory, No. 15 Michigan (9-6) also punches its ticket to its first NCAA Tournament in program history. More in sports: For the first time since the season began, there was racing at Berlin Raceway, with a traveling series headlining the action this past Saturday, and history being made as well. |
