Rooting for fellow Michiganders |
So you know when you see someone from Michigan in a national competition and want to instantly root for them because, well, MI pride? This season of "The Voice" give us two competitors to cheer on from our state. Sadie Bass, from Bath, who overcame her stage fright in the blind auditions and 15-year old Brayden Lape from Grass Lake. John Legend called him Blake Shelton’s Tom Brady. What makes it even better is when they succeed. West Bloomfield’s Taylor Hale, the 2021 Miss Michigan USA champion, made history when she became the first Black woman to win Big Brother.

Michigan gas prices rocket back up toward $4 per gallon |
Gas prices increasing: Regular gas is averaging $3.97 per gallon in Michigan, but rising by the day, according to AAA. Some stations have already made the jump over $4 to $4.09-$4.19.
Compared to last week: Prices are up 17 cents in the past week and 20 of Michigan’s 83 counties are averaging above $4 per gallon, as of Monday, Sept. 26.
More in financial: Anyone who filed their taxes late during the pandemic will get relief from penalty fees. The Internal Revenue Service is providing refunds to those who missed the deadline for filing their 2019 and 2020 federal income tax returns. |

High interest rates equal picky buyers. You have to stage to sell, experts say. |
Scott's selling story: Scott Faulkner was frustrated his 4,200-square foot Bloomfield Hills home was sitting on the market for months. He even did a drastic price reduction of $100,000, but that only led buyers to question what was wrong with the home, he said. Faulkner’s home sat for six months at the end of 2020 into 2021. A change of scenery: It was only after he tried a new approach with a local staging company, adding light fixtures, decor, and greenery, did his house sell within 30 days at the original price. The days of cash offers over asking price are over. It’s time for sellers to get competitive again and that means investing in curb appeal, experts say.
What about the rental market? Not only is the housing market on edge, Michigan’s cutthroat rental market is being described as a "nightmare" with waitlists, ghosting landlords and skyrocketing rent. |

Threats are just part of life for gubernatorial candidates, Tudor Dixon says |
Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon compared the conspiracy to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to the Governor’s treatment of businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic in two campaign events.
Doubling down: In the wake of these comments, the candidate wants Michiganders to know she’s faced threats and harassment, too. Dixon said this is the life a candidate chooses by entering politics.
More in politics:In the Tuesday, Nov. 8, election, U.S. House Rep. John Moolenaar will face Democrat Jerry Hilliard for the third time in a race to represent Michigan’s District 2 seat in Congress. However, the playing field will be different this year. |

A rare look onboard the ghostly Boblo Boat |
Exploring the boat: They took countless passengers to and from Boblo Island over the course of the amusement park’s more than 100 years of existence. Now, new memories will be made as progress continues restoring the Boblo Boat. The vision: When the restoration is complete, visitors can go onto the docked boat with the four floors holding a gift shop, ballroom, beer garden and more.
About the island: They’ve survived the elements for decades and will be preserved for generations to come. See some of the defunct amusement park's remnants the owners of Boblo Island plan to preserve. |
