What does the weather look like this week? |
This week is obviously starting out with a really wintry feel. Our meteorologist Mark Torregrossa says the January cold won’t last all week and storm systems will be pretty sparse too. Today should be the last cold, wintry day. Tomorrow's snow should be confined to northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. The snow should only mount up to less than two inches. Then expect a slightly warmer pattern into the weekend before the next widespread weather-maker. This next weather-maker appears to lean more toward rain for most of us. |

Michigan wants help with climate project checklist before bid for federal cash |
State officials are ready to roll out Michigan’s healthy climate plan and want the public’s suggestions about where to start. Join in: A series of five in-person meetings and two virtual sessions over the next three weeks will help the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) set climate action priorities to reach a carbon-neutral economy by 2050. More in environmental: Michigan will join the ranks of U.S. states with required energy storage goals when this year’s clean energy legislation is expectedly signed into law. |

12-year-old arrested after leading police on chase in forklift |
On Saturday evening: A 12-year-old boy riding a forklift was arrested after leading police on a chase and hitting 10 vehicles. Police later learned the vehicle was unlocked with a key hidden inside the cab. No injuries reported: One person is in custody after they allegedly drove an SUV into the box office of The FIllmore Monday morning. The box office was completely destroyed in the incident, but no other damage appears to have been done to the building. More in crime: Police in Metro Detroit are looking for a suspect who was allegedly shooting at railroad workers on Thanksgiving. |

Pugh becomes first Democrat to confirm she’s running for Kildee congressional seat |
State Board of Education President Pamela Pugh has announced she’s running for Congress, becoming the first Democrat to confirm she will seek the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Flint Twp. More in politics: Michigan has made some serious changes to abortion law in the year since voters codified a right to the procedure within the state constitution. Here's what has, and hasn't, changed in 2023. The legislature may have flown the coop for 2023, officially adjourning on Nov. 14, but Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her staff have been left with a big stack of legislation to sift through before the end of the year – well in excess of 100 bills. Let’s go through what she signed last week and what may be closest on the horizon to reach her desk. |

Suspension over, Jim Harbaugh renews call for revenue sharing in college sports |
Sharing thoughts: Jim Harbaugh renewed his call for revenue sharing in college sports on Sunday. He said on a conference call that the topic crossed his mind again over the weekend as he visited injured offensive lineman Zak Zinter in the hospital. Harbaugh also mentioned how the hype around the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry is "not healthy."
In East Lansing: Tom Izzo welcomed new Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith, calling him "an excellent addition." Plus, Katin Houser, Sam Leavitt, Ethan Boyd and Kevin Wigenton are all planning to enter the transfer portal. For the NFL: The Detroit Lions have played some of the worst defense in the league over the last few weeks. Now they appear to be losing one of their best players on that side of the ball too, as linebacker Alex Anzalone battles a hand/wrist injury that could sideline him multiple weeks. |
