More than 20% of COVID cases, hospitalizations recently are among Michigan's fully vaccinated A growing percentage of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths are among fully vaccinated individuals as the more infectious delta variant continues to spread. In the last 30 days, vaccinated individuals in Michigan have represented 23.4% cases, 28.1% of hospitalizations, and nearly 15.4% of COVID-19 deaths, according to data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Health officials have warned that new coronavirus strains like delta could result in more vaccinated people getting sick, but they continue to promote the available vaccines as effective at dramatically reducing risk of severe illness and death from coronavirus infection. Gretchen Whitmer has new ideas of how to spend Michigan’s federal stimulus money, although she’ll need to get the Republican-led Legislature on board to make it a reality. Whitmer unveiled a new proposal on how to spend $2.1 billion worth of American Rescue Plan money on Monday, Aug. 23. She’s suggested a handful of plans throughout the year on how to spend the federal aid, but they haven’t come to fruition. Michigan’s state government received $6.5 billion from President Joe Biden’s stimulus package. Democrats and Republicans disagree about how to spend the money, which is why the cash remains in limbo.
