Michigan's recreational marijuana industry celebrates birthday after 'incredible' first year It's been a year since recreational marijuana businesses were first allowed to open their doors to adults 21 and over in Michigan. The past 12 months have been "incredible" for the industry, according to experts. The fledgling adult-use market has accounted for nearly a half-billion dollars in sales, and based on the most recent figures, the industry is closing in on projected annual sales in excess of $1 billion over the next year. Here, reporter Gus Burns takes an in-depth look into all of the marijuana-related news that came out of Michigan in the state's first year of legal recreational sales. MORE Michigan restaurants lose court battle in effort to toss in-person dining ban Michigan’s restaurant dining rooms must remain closed until at least Dec. 9, as a federal judge has denied a motion that would have nullified the state’s COVID-19 order that temporarily prohibits in-person dining. The Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association and two restaurant groups sued the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services shortly after the three-week ban began in mid-November. After listening to both sides during a hearing this week, a judge denied a request Wednesday for preliminary injunction.
