 After waiting weeks for a vaccine appointment through his local hospital, Michael Betz took a friend’s advice and signed up through Meijer pharmacy. Within 24 hours, Betz, 65, had an appointment with Meijer and received his first dose of coronavirus vaccine two days later. Through the end of February, Michigan reported hospitals had administered 41% of coronavirus vaccines, with health departments administering 33%. Pharmacies, outside of long-term care programs, had administered 9%. But when it comes to first doses of the coronavirus vaccine administered in March, 30% of those have come from pharmacies. It marks a slight lead for commercial pharmacies when looking at residents starting the vaccine process. If you did so along Lake Michigan near Whitehall, you might have caught a glimpse of the wreck of the Contest, a 124-foot schooner that grounded near White Lake in 1882. The remnants are visible again thanks to shifting beach sand and dropping Lake Michigan water levels. The wreck was last visible in 2018 when dune erosion uncovered frames and keelson that had previously been buried under several feet of sand since 1974, according to the Michigan Shipwreck Research Association. TAKE A LOOK  The coronavirus pandemic changed many aspects of life, including how people eat, get groceries and enjoy food. Restaurants began offering curbside pickup, grocery-delivering apps were created, and people started cooking more at home rather than eating out. Like almost everything else, the COVID-19 pandemic changed people’s relationship with food. “We have only eaten inside twice, while on vacation in an area that had low COVID numbers, and outside a handful of times,” said Alec Gibbs of Flint, who also mentioned meal prepping during the pandemic.  Michigan and Louisiana State’s last meeting was during the first month of the 2017-18 season thousands of miles away from either campus. Now they will square off tonight with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line. Both the No.1-seeded Wolverines and No.8-seeded Tigers handily won their first-round NCAA Tournament matchups, although LSU faced the more formidable foe.
