Satellite image reveals strange warm spot in Lake Michigan |
Satellites images can reveal a lot of details of the surface below as they pass over Earth. Last last week, a few satellite images snapped over the Great Lakes revealed an odd-looking spot in the middle of the southern half of Lake Michigan. A weather research team in Wisconsin brought the anomaly - and its cool explanation - to the public’s attention. To know: Worried about feeding backyard birds during Michigan’s bird flu outbreak? According to Audubon Great Lakes, avian flu transmission to songbirds remains uncommon, though the organization still recommends taking some precautionary measures when feeding wild birds. Look up: The month of May will kick off with some springtime sparkle as the Eta Aquariids meteor shower ramps up to its biggest night. |

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into Ford’s automated driving system, known as Blue Cruise after a pair of fatal crashes have been linked to the system. Another big name in the news: Amazon's cloud computing unit Amazon Web Services plans to invest $11 billion to build a data center in northern Indiana that will create at least 1,000 new jobs. New rule: Qualified lower-paid workers who earn a salary but work more than 40 hours in a week will soon receive guaranteed time-and-a-half pay as part of a new labor rule announced by the Biden-Harris administration. |

‘Assassin’ TikTok game emerging in high schools ‘way too dangerous,’ police say |
A viral game: Police in Northern Michigan have issued a warning about a TikTok trend they say is “too dangerous.” The game, dubbed “Senior Assassin” or “Junior Assassin,” involves groups of students developing a game of tag with squirt guns, nerf guns, air soft guns and paint ball guns. The goal is to shoot or “tag” out their opponents with social media apps like TikTok and SnapChat being used to communicate. In Kalamazoo: Western Michigan University sent in police to handle a student protest over the war in Gaza on Sunday, April 28, as it prohibited overnight camping, the university said in a news release. Eyes on the road: State, county, and local police agencies have started conducting “Operation Ghost Rider” on Monday with the goal to reduce distracted driving deaths and injuries. |
