It's the moment football fans and players hoping to go pro have been waiting for: the 2024 NFL Draft. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are heading to downtown Detroit as the city hosts the three day event for the first time on Thursday, April 24 through Saturday, April 27. From a lineup of events at Hart Plaza to navigating transportation options around the city, here's an A to Z guide to the draft. While you're in the city, be sure to check out a a few staple spots recommended by "Ted Lasso" actor and Detroit native, Sam Richardson. If you plan on heading downtown, be mindful of where you park. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is warning residents of parking scams that may target attendees. |

But questions still linger for him as the 10th anniversary of the crisis closes in. Hear in his own words how the water crisis continues to affect his community a decade later. Have a look: City workers are planning to guide tours of the water treatment facility that was in the public eye a decade ago from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, and Thursday, April 25, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the start of the Flint water crisis. Puppy on the way: Brick Elementary School students’ fundraising efforts paid off when the Lincoln Consolidated School Board unanimously approved Monday, April 22, a proposal to get the school its own therapy dog. The dog would spend time in classrooms, calm emotionally distressed students and help children with special education needs In Battle Creek: Binder Park Zoo is set to reopen for the 2024 season on Wednesday, May 1 and will unveil a new African pygmy goat habitat. Families can get a closer look at the zoo's 11 pygmy goats, feed them or enter the goat yard for petting. Helping out: You can help name the adorable otter pup triplets at Potter Park Zoo in by voting between three sets of names. Each vote costs $5 and donations will support the zoo’s conservation efforts. |

Forecast: After a chilly Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are expected to feel more like spring. By Saturday afternoon all of Lower Michigan will be in the 70s with the exception of the Great Lakes’ shorelines. The shoreline areas may have temperatures only in the 50s as we head into the weekend. Next month: The European Centre For Medium-Range Weather Forecasts Model (also called the Euro model) shows Michigan will have a solid spring weather pattern going into May. Speaking of spring: The 110-acre botanical garden at Dow Gardens in Midland invites visitors to take a “Spring Stroll” and enjoy a kaleidoscope of colors as 22,000 thousand bulbs approach full bloom. |

Michigan looks to set new NFL draft record: Players, preview, prediction |
Going pro: Georgia set a seven-round draft record in 2022 with 15 players making it to the league. Michigan hopes to top that number this year and set a new draft record. A total of 18 players were invited to the annual NFL Scouting Combine this spring, making it a real possibility. Big money: The Lions have reached an agreement with Amon-Ra St. Brown that will keep the star receiver in Detroit through 2028. The contract is a four-year extension worth $120 million, according to NFL Network, making him the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL. Also in football: The Bears are hoping to build a 4.6 billion domed stadium development in a parking lot area south of Soldier Field in Chicago's Museum Campus. It would also include 14 acres of athletic fields and green park space, an ice-skating rink in winter and potential developments like a sports culture museum or publicly owned hotel. |

Up North ‘nature megaphone’ amplifies sweet sounds of the forest |
Take a listen: A hidden Northern Michigan “nature megaphone” amplifies birdsong, flowing water and other audible treats in the pristine Pigeon River region. The 14-foot-long wooden megaphone, located near Indian River at the Agnes S. Andreae and Boyd B. Banwell Nature Preserve complex, invites listeners inside to hear wildlife. Limited spots: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is making a few changes to the North Manitou Island deer hunt. Citing the increasing popularity of the hunt, the concern for hunter safety, and the need to protect the designated wilderness on the island, the National Park Service is only accepting 200 applications in 2024. Skip the hike: There will be two extra bus days this year for the Big Sable Light, providing more access to this popular Lake Michigan lighthouse at the end of a two-mile trail. |
