For the first time since 1991!
In today's newsletter, officials forecast Michigan's state budget, J.J. McCarthy declares for NFL draft and state parks are looking for volunteer hosts this summer. |
They have really done it. |
It's been proven time and time again over the course of this season, and last night was no different. Detroit is THAT team. For the first time since 1991, the Lions have won a playoff game, taking out Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams with a 24-23 victory in a wild-card game on Sunday night at Ford Field. They will host the winner of No. 4 Tampa Bay or No. 5 Philadelphia next weekend at Ford Field, with a trip to the NFC championship game at stake. Here's how to get tickets. |

Dangerously cold wind chills plunge Michigan into bitter week ahead |
Brrrrrr: Arctic air spilling into Michigan this week will plunge us into cold daytime temperatures for the next several days, with cities across both peninsulas seeing single-digit highs. Be aware and prepared: But the really uncomfortable - and dangerous - part of this is the bitterly cold sub-zero wind chills we’ll be facing as this polar airmass lingers in our area. It may seem really odd, but daytime temperatures in southern Michigan are expected to be much colder than temperatures Up North beginning yesterday. This temperature anomaly is expected to last a few days. And the reason has to do with some sneaky wind direction.

Officials forecast less surplus, but more stability for Michigan state budget |
Background: After Democrats used the last of billions of dollars in federal pandemic aid to pass a record budget last year, 2024 is shaping up to be decidedly less extraordinary. Instead, economic experts who presented at the Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference on Friday told state officials they expect the economic roller coaster to flatten out, bringing back a measure of normalcy to the state’s budget outlook. Over the weekend: Kristina Karamo was declared the “undisputed chairwoman” of the Michigan Republican Party by her allies Saturday, despite another GOP faction's vote to oust her seven days prior. |

Michigan state parks, harbors looking for volunteer hosts this summer |
An extended stay: The DNR is currently accepting applications for volunteer hosts at a variety of state parks and recreation areas, rustic state forest campgrounds, and state harbors for 2024. In exchange for some volunteer work, camping and boat slip fees are waived. At one park: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has some fresh and free events this season to help visitors beat the winter blues. While we're outside: Whether you’re looking for a new favorite spot to snowshoe, or are trying it for the first time, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Recreation Search site can help you locate state lands with trails specifically open to winter sports. |
