The Michigan High School Athletic Association has been collecting player concussion data since the end of the 2015-16 school year. And while sports concussions - especially in football - remain a concern, survey numbers point to an encouraging decline in reported concussions in a number of sports. Football registers the most concussions of any sport. However, the three years of data show a reduction from 49 concussions per 1,000 participants to 44 per 1,000 last year to 41 per 1,000 after the 2017-18 school year. Education, awareness and equipment have been hailed as reasons for the drop.
