BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer The northern floodwater mosquito started appearing in the Capital Region by the millions in February, thanks to the monthslong drought last summer, according to experts. The East Baton Rouge mosquito abatement program has been busy fighting off the band of bugs. A $13 million federal grant will help a MOVEBR project make improvements on a 2.1-mile stretch of Thomas Road near BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo, including wider shoulders and a mixed-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists. East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome says the stretch of road is a key artery for travelers in the area. Olivia Dunne is part social media influencer, part model and still a collegiate gymnast. And she might be competing for the final time in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Friday.
